Travel Player Evaluations
Player Evaluation and Team Selection for Travel Teams - Age U12 and U14 players
All players interested in playing soccer at the U12 or U14 level and are appropriately registered with the Cohasset Soccer Club will be placed on a team and play in the fall and spring travel leagues regardless of skill level or experience.
However, the Coastal League guidelines state that if a town has more than one team in an age group, then one team must be entered into the First Division. In these cases the Cohasset Soccer Club will be required to create an "A' team to play at the First Division level - the highest level of competition within the Coastal League play. The remaining team(s) in each age group will be placed at more appropriate competitive levels.
As a result, at the start of each Fall season, a player evaluation will be held. This on-field evaluation will include an assessment of skill levels, fitness, soccer knowledge and team play abilities. This evaluation, along with the input of the coaching staff and the age group coordinator and an assessment of each player's commitment, attitude and likelihood to succeed will be used to determine which players will be placed on the "A" team.
All players not selected to participate on the "A" team will be placed on one of the remaining age group teams which will participate fully in League play - but at a less competitive level -- and will have the opportunity to participate fully in all skill development sessions, practices and games.
The goal of this process is to provide all players the opportunity to play soccer at a safe and competitive level (whatever that level may be) and to have the opportunity to advance their individual and team skills and succeed within the League play.
For the upcoming seasons, player evaluations for the BU12, GU12 and GU14 age groups will be held late June prior to School finishing, with team placement announced in the Fall. With only one team in League play at the BU14 age level there will not be evaluations for that age group. All players are strongly encouraged to participate in this evaluation process, especially if the player wishes to be considered for participation on the "A" team.
